A mixed party including Oytter Beyang, General and Mrs. Cottelyau, Ambassador Conger, University president James, war correspondent Francis McCullough and others visited Sagamore this afternoon. Cartelyous and Conger arrived to share information on the boycott issue and meet the President over luncheon in a social visit.

Death reported of General William Seward who served in the Civil War with the Seventh Regiment and was colonel of the Ninth at the start of the Spanish American War. He died at his residence in New York on August 19, 1587, after a life in wholesale and commission business beginning at age 19 in New York.
George Jenna of Langdon New Hampshire and John Lench of Welpton New Hampshire died yesterday afternoon when a wagon plunged from a bridge after a train struck the horse drawing their vehicle. The horse was killed, the carriage crushed, and both men were mangled. Bodies recovered and taken to local undertaker rooms. Leach a known figure once proprietor of the Commercial House.
The Washington County Veterans Association opened this afternoon at 2 at Dewey Park with welcome addresses by Mayors Barclay of Butte and Corry of Montpelier. Speakers included Dr. E. J. August 17. An electric tram struck Capt Fitzsimmons of the Portland Salvation Army Industrial Home in a procession near the beach. He was killed. another member of the army was slain. The car dragged a man about thirty feet before stopping. Rescue used jacks to lift the car. Fitzsimmons, 35, leaves a widow and ten children. An inquest will be held.
The bodies of Harris Lindsley of New York and Miss Willing were moved for burial after a fatal automobile crash. Lindsley’s body was sent to New York on the 3:40 train with his brother, and services are planned in New York before burial in Manchester. Miss Willing’s body, accompanied by Ambrose Cramer of Chicago, was taken to Manchester for interment in the Skinner lot. Prayer was led yesterday afternoon in the undertaker’s room by Rev. Warren Morse of the Congregational Church of Bennington.
Six persons were killed when a Santa Fe freight train derailed near Santa Ana California last night after the engine tumbled into a freight car collision. The accident occurred between Santa Ana and Riverside with a northbound freight train derailing.

Turner served as maid of honor. bride comes from Nova Scotia while groom resides in Barre. The couple planned a two week trip to the White Mountains and Boston before settling in Barre.
A butter-tub factory owned by Vv Banecoft in Plainfield was destroyed by fire last night with an estimated loss of $2500. Fire broke out shortly before six o'clock, gaining headway before efforts to extinguish it succeeded. The cause is unknown with theories ranging from a hot box to careless smoking. insurance partially covers the loss.
The Barre Traction and Power Company has asked City Treasurer Mackay to issue full payment for the street railway paving on North Main Street and Depot Square for the current season.
A Barre railroad case dominated a four o'clock hearing in the street commissioners room. J P Lamson of Cabot represented the Barre railroad, raising objections to paving Depot Street under the Vermont statutes. The issues include railroad liability for assessments, whether the commissioners can determine special levies, and the legality of frontage based assessments.
Members gathered in the Brown block hall on North Main street to discuss the association's situation. No action was taken but plans were made to invite FP. A. Lucia of Montpelier and E. W. Bisbee to speak on association matters at an upcoming meeting.
Aug 17 at St Sibangay the steamer Chaiteaugay struck the bow of a dock boat causing a three foot hole aft of the stern. The impact tore away a dock writer and damaged the engine room but repairs have been completed and the ship awaits its scheduled trip.

Brand Chief Ranger Crahan of the State Court For Veterans of America announced appointments to committees. Auditing committee includes Join A. Ryne of Bennington and J. Hinche of Proctor, with Eugene Joselin to join the arbitration committee. Other officials include W. J. Foot, Reed Nags, I. Larr Tennatt Julian, Richard J. Madigon, and Lifan of Beighton.
The funeral of George W. Cutler was held Tuesday afternoon from the home with Rev J Edward Weight officiating. Pallbearers were Hermon E Wilbur A Merton E Cutler and Curtis Martin. Interment followed at Wilson Cemetery as friends and relatives paid tribute to the deceased.
The McClure bank robbery case of the Merchants National Bank in Rutland was settled today by Reference HL OBren. Eleven claims were proved totaling over 128000 dollars with a dividend of a fraction of a dollar. An additional 10000 dollars from McClure’s installments helped the receiver pay fifteen percent of the remaining balance to depositors.

Northfield Fruit company workers attempted to dry bananas last night when their tail caught fire. Firefighters battled the blaze for about thirty minutes, limiting damage before it could spread.
A fatal railroad accident on a Central Vermont side track killed Gabelloni of Brickhill Street as he and companion Cenramelly were on the track. The engine struck and dragged Gabelloni beneath the wheels, severing a leg and inflicting grievous injuries. Cenramelly was walking ahead and warned too late. The engineer and crew did not see Gabelloni until after the crash.
Camp Governor Bell held a quiet celebration at Behan Allen Park with a guard detail and a special train to Burl. Regimental formation occurred on OG street, led by Lieut. Col. Hennett, with Col. Estey as chief marshal of the parade.
