A Wells River drowning occurred Saturday afternoon when Fred Tenny, a 14 or 19 year old water boy from Darby on the B. and M. road gang, disappeared while swimming in the Connecticut River. His body was found Sunday in a mall eddy near the point of entry and taken to the undertaking rooms of D. R. Ronhan. his family was notified.

War Finance Agency to Accept Bank Farm Loan Applications

Barre boys killed in action in France die in great drive
News from Barre Vermont reports Private Robert R. Webster 104th Infantry killed in action July 20 and Corp Arthur G Beattie killed July 19 while serving in France with the American expeditionary forces. Webster lived in Barre most of his life and worked as a granite cutter before enlisting. Beattie formerly worked in St. Albans and South Dakota, later serving with the South Dakota National Guard. A third young man, John Johnson, of East Montpelier, died in action July 21 after moving with Robinsons family. Memorial arrangements are planned and tributes note their exemplary lives and service.

Telegrams announced the deaths in action July 20 of James Brown, 21, formerly of Montpelier and Berlin area, and Ludger Toussant of St Johnsbury, a mid eight twentysomething graduate, both in France with American Expeditionary Forces.
