Election Fraud Alleged in Pike County Vote

The Pike County election of October 3 1894 produced a 2850 vote tally with Col John F Redding appearing to lose to a populist. Disputed precincts were discarded and consolidation finished, giving Redding a majority. Several precincts showed inflated ballot counts and hundreds of illegal votes suspected in Barnesville Liffey Piedmont and other districts. A contest is expected to reverse the result in Redding’s favor by about 500 votes.
