Tom Delk Hanged for Sheriff Gwyn Murder

Tom Delk, an outlaw, was executed by hanging in Zebulon for the murder of Pike County Sheriff W O Gwyn. About two to three thousand spectators witnessed the orderly scene as Sheriff Milner conducted the attempt, with the community asserting faith in lawful penalty.

Building for Hosiery Mill Under Way on Greenwood Street

The Stafford-Huguley Hosiery Co. begins erecting a building for its hosiery mill on the old mill lot at Greenwood street. Mayor Huguley recently bought the lot, where a large ginnery already stands. The mill aims to fill many orders quickly with staff: E. H. Bloodworth superintendent, Frank M. Stafford secretary and treasurer, and Huguley president. The mill reports a prosperous condition.

Barnesville Blues To Travel To Nashville Exposition

The Barnesville Blues will join the Fifth Georgia Regiment for a trip to the Nashville exposition. The party plans to depart Barnesville Wednesday at 5 37 p m by train with a special Atlanta connection and return Sunday, with Capt. J F Howard predicting an enjoyable journey. About thirty men will participate and Barnesville is set to play a notable role in the celebration.

The Jeff Davis Institute held a Zebulon commencement week begun Sunday with Rev. A B Pope’s strong sermon. J M Coch rane and C T Tyler added interest to the program as the campus earns local pride through patronage and support.

The Peabody Institute is ongoing at the C. M. E. church this week with about sixty colored teachers in attendance. Several lecturers discuss the program subjects and the institute is considered interesting and helpful, largely directed by Mr. Edward Elder Pike county school commissioner.

A two story ginnery building is ready for machinery in a venture by Mayor G E Huguley and J B P Milner. A. O. Bennett holds the contract and moves quickly to install the latest, most modern equipment. The plant aims to gin cotton promptly for the whole section.
