John Leek of Pike county died last Friday at his home near Jordan's Store aged 102. A native Georgian born April 26 1792 he never left the state nor rode a railroad. He lived sixty nine years at his current home and was buried there after a quiet funeral attended by many friends.
Rev. Br. J. Ellis will preach to the Masons on the anniversary of St. John at the Methodist church. The public is invited to attend and hear the sermon with the Masons.
Last Thursday at 9 o clock Dr M A Clark and Miss Ima Murphey united in marriage at the bride’s home with few witnesses. The couple reside with Mr and Mrs A O Murphey and receive best wishes from the Gazete.
Last Sunday in Barnesville saw full congregations at all churches. Rev. M. F. Duncan preached at the Presbyterian church and again at night at the Methodist church. Rev. T. R. McCarty of Dablonega spoke at the Methodist church for Walesca Normal school. Rev. W. E. Perryclear led the Baptist service. A 4 PM joint session of the Young Men's and Young Ladies Christian Association at the Methodist church drew strong interest.
Miss Jean Mitchell returned from Georgia Female Seminary in Gainesville last week with a flawless record, first honor, and four medals for general excellence, Latin, metaphysical essay, and French. She was elected president of her class and awarded a tutorship for next year. Her Barnesville friends praise her bright record and achievement.
Mr Edgar L Rogers buys a splendid safe from Herring Hall Marvin Co Cincinnati. The safe is large enough for books papers money and valuables and is fire and burglar proof. When locked and the combination is set all contents are absolutely safe.
