Cordele Georgia August 16 1897 A H Killian recommends Dr Tichenor s antiseptic as the finest medicine for its claims after years of use and praise for its effectiveness and value in health care.
A school picnic will be held at Lifseys Springs on Saturday August 12. Baths will be free that day through the kindness of Mr. C. L. Lifsey, proprietor of the springs.
Dr. H. Nelkin of Atlanta renowned optician visits the city for a day and plans to return to Barnesville in a few weeks for several days. The Gazette will announce his coming. He invites those needing glasses to wait for him as he guarantees satisfaction and directs customers to headquarters at Dr. Wrights drug store.
Advertisement notes ready split stove wood sods per one horse load with a rack on top of the body. Orders left with M. M. Elliott & Co. Hamlin Brothers.
The Barnesville Chautauqua Association stockholders reelected the board led by W. B. Smith. President Smith notes record attendance and strong program praise, with 430 tickets sold to teachers and visitors and total receipts about $2600. Profits near $200 and plans to dividend $2 per share as benches are sold.
Rev W S Stevens assists Concord pastor this week before returning to Barnesville to fill his pulpit Sunday. Rev F R Graves installed as pastor for Barnesville Forsyth and Thomaston churches living in Barnesville and serving two Sundays monthly here. Baptist pulpit filled by two young ministers Dr T J Watts morning Rev Charles M Brittain evening. Methodist time changes revert to 11 am and 8 pm services. Dr J M Brittain remains at Fairborne for a protracted meeting.
Prof J M Pound president of Gordon Institute Barnesville is in Macon today returning from Twiggs county where he has been directing a teachers institute Pound has many engagements to conduct such institutes in the state and is regarded as one of the best instructors in the south in this line.
