Enterprising Yatesville Plans Natatorium and Park

Last Friday W A Andrews and W H Stephens organized a stock company to build a natatorium and convert several acres into a park south of Florence street. The project includes a pavilion, a palatial hotel, and will serve picnickers and travelers alongside the Commercial. The Joseph E Johnston Institute summer school opens the second Monday in July with Professor J W Dennington as president.

Desk Case Postponed In Taylor Delk Hearing

Judge Beck of Jackson postponed the Taylor Delk case hearing to Friday this week. Atlanta attorney John L. Travis and Solicitor Bloodworth argued the motion, with Travis seeking more time due to delayed testimony. C. J. Haden was detained in Atlanta. The motion, drawn by Haden and Travis, presents about thirty grounds for a new trial. none expect a grant.

Gwyn to Form Law Partnership with Judge Dupree

Mr. C. R. Gwyn of Zebulon will form a law partnership with Judge E. F. Dupree, creating a strong firm. Dupree, long serving Pike County judge, is praised as an excellent jurist and popular citizen. Gwyn, Emory College graduate and son of W. O. Gwyn, has many admirers and a promising future.

Quarterly Conference at Methodist Church Reports Favorable

The quarterly conference met at the Methodist church with Rev W W Wadsworth presiding. Discussions covered church affairs and finances showed good condition with a favorable financial report. Dr Wadsworth delivered the morning sermon but rain forced the evening service to be canceled.

Missionary Institute to be Held at Methodist Church

Beginning August 3 a Missionary Institute of several days will be held at the Methodist church. Rev. W. S. Stevens, the pastor, is arranging the event which will draw many delegates and visitors. Prominent Methodist members will deliver addresses and a complete program will be announced later.

Money For Mellons In Georgia And Ohio

Hon Douglas Glessner editor of the Griffin News offers ten dollars in silver for the largest Georgia grown watermelon sent to Hon William J. Bryan by July 16. He also offers five dollars for the largest melon grown in Spalding or nearby counties sent to Hon H S Chapman for Ohio governor by August 4.

Jail Break Attempt Reported in Zebulon Prison

Gray Britt led inmates in an escape plot at the county jail. They sawn through corridor bars and planned to ambush the door keeper, aim to knock him down, and flee. Sheriff Milner and deputies blocked the break and restored order.

New Road Aimed To Link Fredonia Church Area To Barnesville

Residents surrounding Fredonia church push to open a new road to Barnesville. The route would start at Judge E T Pounds home pass the Matthews plantation and Langfords to reach the church. Locals say the road would shorten travel to Barnesville by about two miles and benefit the community.

Veterans Reunion Near Bluff Springs Draws Veterans

The Pike County Veterans Association will hold a reunion at Bluff Springs on Thursday July 22. All veterans from the county and neighboring counties are invited to attend for a good dinner and a happy gathering. Maj. John T Hunt, president, says Gen. Clement A. Evans is expected to attend and a large crowd is likely.

Mr. Z. T. Evans, long serving dispenser and police officer in Barnesville, is lauded for his faithful duty on the streets. The writer notes opposition stems from pursuit of office, praising Evans’ honorable official record.
