Huguley Wins Barnesville Mayoral Race In Historic Victory

Voters closed polls at 6 pm marking one of Barnesville’s tightest contests. George E. Huguley won mayor over John F. Howard by five votes. aldermen John T. Chambers, Robert L. Swatts, and Walter B. Smith won seats with narrow margins. A state institution for training Georgia girls will open at Milledgeville on September 30 1891. Pike County earns three scholarships. applicants must appear at Barnesville on August 29 for entrance exams covering Arithmetic History Geography and English Grammar.
