A call to honor Prof. Robert B. Brooks with a monument in Barnesville recalls his youthful sacrifice for education. The editor laments neglect of his grave near the Methodist cemetery and urges local women and all citizens to fund and erect a lasting memorial, promising weekly subscription lists.
Voters closed polls at 6 pm marking one of Barnesville’s tightest contests. George E. Huguley won mayor over John F. Howard by five votes. aldermen John T. Chambers, Robert L. Swatts, and Walter B. Smith won seats with narrow margins. A state institution for training Georgia girls will open at Milledgeville on September 30 1891. Pike County earns three scholarships. applicants must appear at Barnesville on August 29 for entrance exams covering Arithmetic History Geography and English Grammar. James Bridges son of W J Bridges of Creswell died after a lingering typhoid illness at his father’s home. He was 21, just finished his education, and regarded as a worthy young man. A friend lauded him to the Call as the kind of youth the country needs. Bridges studied at Gordon Institute and had many connections in Barnesville.

In Oglethorpe county caterpillars threaten the cotton crop with fear of ruin. L Edwards a leading planter reports four acres of millet destroyed and fights to keep them off cotton. He warns early infestation could ruin the crop. The text notes the caterpillars are also in Wik county.
