Gordon Institute, founded 1852 as Barnesville Male and Female High School, enjoys broad Southern patronage and a reputation for rigorous, conservative yet progressive education. The faculty of fifteen, mostly experienced, demands hard work, with programs in Music Art Drawing Physical Culture and Military Science. Tuition remains affordable at twelve dollars annually, with cadet uniforms and rifles for about one hundred cadets. Notable supporters include Wm. E. Boggs, Warren A. Candler, and W. J. Northen.
