The Library Association met at Gordon Institute on Friday afternoon to discuss the public library. Officers were elected: J. M. Pound president, A. M. Lambdin vice president, Otis A. Murphey secretary, treasurer to be chosen later. A book committee plans to spend about 600 dollars on new volumes, aiming to open in a month or two with around two thousand books. George E. Huguley proposes a firm foundation plan and will chair the committee to implement it, with strong local support from the Woman's Club and Barnesville residents.
Miss Grace Woodward and Miss Donna Bain hosted the Easter egg hunt with Mr J B Harrison Saturday afternoon at Magnolia Inn. Seventy children participated with Allie May Neely winning the girls prize and Clarence Murphey the boys prize. Refreshments followed the hunt on the lawn and veranda as games entertained the youngsters.
Charles T. Tyler has contracted with Tennille Chautauqua directors for two days of entertainment. He is described as a former troupe performer with true artistic genius and is expected to satisfy the audience. Barnesville patrons praise the contribution to the event and anticipate strong performances.
Episcopal church ladies hosted an Easter egg hunt for town children last Saturday at the home of Mrs Jno T Chambers. Many boys and girls joined the search for eggs hidden across the lawn, making the afternoon a pleasant occasion.
Easter Sunday brought a cool bright morning as the Methodist church drew a large crowd by 11 o clock. A quartet of Barnesville’s top male voices, a Belle Rose solo, and a sermon by Rev. W. S. Stevens on the Resurrection filled the service, with plans to resume protracted services after a short pause.
Judge Z L Fryer died Friday afternoon at his daughter’s home near Strouds after months of declining health. He was 71, born April 30, 1828, and died peacefully surrounded by family. A Baptist deacon, he lived in Barnesville and Antioch, where he was esteemed as a good man and generous friend. Funeral services were held Sunday at 1 o'clock with Dr J M Brittain preaching. interment followed on Zebulon Street.
Mrs. L. D. Owen died very suddenly last Friday at her home near Brent after a brief illness. She was well liked and had many friends in the community who mourn her sudden departure.
