The November 14 1906 ceremony drew the entire College and Alumni to honor Brooks Hall. The writer argues the strong turnout proves gratitude and college spirit persist despite dormitory absence class rivalry and cliques. Guests’ presence reinforces unity and dispels doubts about city colleges.
Article II sets meetings in Brinkerhoff Theatre and requires academic costumes. Article III covers dues including one dollar annually by November 1 or one month after election. Associate members pay fifty cents by November 1 or within one month after election. Nonpayment leads to removal after due notice. A quorum is one third of Active members.
Passed October 10 1906 the by laws were amended to hold two meetings monthly at the Program Committee discretion the Undergraduate President presides at all meetings the Graduate President gains the title Graduate Vice President and chairs the Executive Committee the Undergraduate Vice President chairs the Membership Committee and the office of Second Vice President is dropped
The Athletic Association invites girls to join via Herlinda Smithers and pay 75 cents to Comfort Tiffany. C P Armstrong is president. Thompson Gym opens to Barnard students five to six on Mondays and Wednesdays for basketball practice and the same on Friday for general gym use. Lockers are available at the gym.
In the fall tournament semi finals Julia Tiffany and Lillian Egleston won their matches to reach the championship. Tiffany defeated Clairette Armstrong while Egleston defeated Louise Rapp, with Tiffany clinching the title in the final set after a strong start.
The Class of gor hosts a party on Saturday November 24 at four o'clock. The event takes place at 560 West 113th Street with invitations extended to students and staff.
The 1909 college matinee pleased the crowd with a smooth performance though cast action could have been speeded up for more humor. Orts the poacher left a distinct impression in a brief appearance. The afternoon was a clear triumph for 1909, with a repeat showing for Sophomore friends on November 10.
The Société Française held its first social gathering in the old Alumni Room on Monday November 5. Prof Bargy spoke on old French songs and read typical examples. Tea followed the address as attendees, including faculty members and guests from the French Government and Alliance Française, applauded the event. The committee led by Helen Harvitt chaired the session, with Marguerite Strauss and others in attendance.
