A 1907 college notice denounces new tuition at five dollars per point, likely raising costs to about 150 dollars for many students and risking hardship for Barnard women who cannot afford extra work. It questions the May Commencement Day shift to end in May with exams earlier and graduation for seniors, noting concerns about practicality and student life.
Last fall the Exchange came under Undergraduate Association control and has supported students. The confectionery department offered candy and gift items like bookmarks calendars ties pillow-covers pennants caps and gowns. Stationery sales boosted usefulness and profits came from home items without commissions. Committees performed well with only rare absences due to illness or misplaced keys.
