Deny Union Injunction Against CU
The New York County Supreme Court denied a temporary injunction sought by the Transport Workers Union against Columbia University over mediation in the cafeteria workers strike. Justice Botein dismissed a $100,000 civil rights suit and ruled Columbia has no duty to bargain, while student groups began petitions for recognizing the union. A CIO protest letter to Mayor Impellitteri and a TV briefing by TWU officials followed.
