The Mortarboard proves financially successful and ends doubts about continuing publication. The Sophomore-Freshman Debating Society votes to open membership to all undergraduates, marking a wise step to broaden college interest and create a more inclusive student organization.
The BULLETIN acknowledges mistakes from the previous issue due to a change in the printing location. The note explains that the new venue led to inadvertent errors in production.
The Chorus holds its regular business meeting on Thursday May 8 at 2 30 PM in the theatre. The agenda includes election of officers.
The Chapel announces that Professor Lord will conduct chapel on Tuesday May 6. The service will be held at the usual chapel venue with expected student and faculty attendance.
Professor John R. Rees of Columbia spoke on recent advances in astronomical photography. He highlighted lunar photography by Draper, sun region imaging, planetary views of Jupiter Saturn and asteroids, and Keeler’s nebula spiral work. He contrasted Manila observatory with Columbia and credited Jesuit discoveries.
The Class Luncheon Committee of 1903 is formed with Madeline Skinner Ethel Pool May Johnson Florence Cheesman and Helen Cohen. Anna Ware and Mary Moen serve ex officio. The first meeting is set for Tuesday May 6 at 1 p.m. in the Junior Study.
Continued report notes Louis M. Dresler and a large chorus as the instrumentalists and singers propelled the production. The boys and girls of the orchestra contributed greatly to the success of the Gilbert and Sullivan show Pinafore.
A gift to the Reading Room brings twenty five books to the College collection honoring Jassie Kaufmann 1903. The titles span history geography language rhetoric and literature including Emerton Wakeman Liddell and Scott and Homer.
Mrs. Raymond Brown spoke to the Graduate Club on Wagner and Parsifal on May 1. She traced the drama’s theme and Bayreuth performances, described the opening scene, and played motifs at the piano while explaining the sequence of scenes. Friends of the club found the afternoon pleasant and instructive.
The Class of 1905 elected its Executive Committee Florence Nye Katharine Goodyear and Irene Van Buren and historian Ruth Reeder for the period 1902 1903 at a May 1 meeting in Orem.
