Use More Money for Disease Prevention Urges Health Commissioner
Health Commissioner Shirley Wynne of New York City urged the assembly to boost funding for disease prevention. He noted New Yorkers spend far more annually on chewing gum than on health and that Americans devote about seventy five cents per person to illness prevention while the federal government spends more to protect its own citizens. Wynne emphasized daily health and public cooperation to detect and eradicate contagious diseases.
