A large anonymous donation of one hundred thousand dollars was made to Columbia University. The intended use of the funds has not been announced. Adolph Lewisohn provided three thousand dollars to acquire a complete set of German dissertations for Ph.D. candidates. C. Chinese Studies Trustee Appoints Giles for Lectures
The Trustees announce Herbert A. Giles to deliver the first calhd lectures in the new Chinese program founded by General Horace Carpent. Dr Giles, Professor at Cambridge, served as consul at Pagoda ee and Shanghai before resigning from the Service in 1893. He has written notable articles on China.
