The Undergraduate Association reports a failing Barnard College Settlement with a single student elector and active dues collectors, yet the group remains largely non-existent and inactive. Barnard’s smaller size contrasts with many other women's colleges that sustain more organizations.
The author argues Barnard should form a College Settlement Association to unify philanthropic effort across faiths and races. It would channel student energy into social service under skilled guidance, avoid sectarian division, and help Barnard regain prominence in intercollegiate activity while expanding charitable work.
In a lively chapel discussion Tweedledee demands new hymns while Tweedledum quarrels over updating the old book. Readers urge the Chapel Committee to balance familiarity with fresh options as they select suitable hymns.
At a January 30 meeting Barnard College faculty named standing committees to serve until January 1910. The Project committee on Instruction lists Robinson Knapp Reimer Montague Crampton Massey and the Dean ex officio. The Scholarships committee includes the Dean Chairman Hubbard Dr. Lee and the Provost ex officio. The Honors committee comprises Trent Maltby Shasner and the Dean with Provost ex officio. The Student Organizations committee names Dead Weeks Chair Weeks and Professor Braun with the Provost ex officio.
The Student Council met on Friday February 17. The Freshman Show Committee report was read and approved. Two copies of each Bulletin number will be kept in the Bulletin office for Council use. Mid Year Finale will be abolished and treated as an ordinary party managed by seniors if classes agree, with no dramatic facet.
The Barnard Press Club via the Bulletin states undergraduates and one year graduates only may compete for Barnard correspondent and five New York papers. A March 15 submission deadline requires a Freshman Show story, sealed with name and class, judged on style accuracy attitude and makeup.
Notes instruct students to submit Think pieces on one side of the paper and ensure readability. All submissions should be filed with Agnes Burke in Locker 11, Senior Study, before March 15. The guidance stresses legibility and proper formatting for submission.
