Earle Prize Award to Edith Valet at Barnard College

The Department of Classical Philology announces Edith Valet, a Barnard senior, won the Earle Prize in Classics. The prize honors Mortimer Samson Earle and is open to Barnard and Columbia College BA candidates. Barnard leads with three wins in five competitions. Twenty-nine new students registered for the second half-year, bringing Barnard total to 639, up 164 percent from last year. A Barnard Riding Club invites interest with Tuesday evening rides at Durland Riding Academy, offering discounted rates and opportunities to join basketball, jeu de barre, and polo with beginner instruction by Mrs. Glenwood and Miss Beagle.

University Announcements for February Activities and Lectures

The notes list trials for the German Play Fulda's Jugendfreunde on February 1 noon in Undergraduate Study. Reminders go to those who owe 1912 Mortar board dues. Friday posts show those still owing. Pay day for College Settlement Association is February 16 noon to 1 in the Bulletin Room. Freshmen may sign for dues of 1. Dues must be paid promptly. Miss Patchin will teach a six week YWCA World Wide Work course starting February 21 in room 135 at 3 10 for half an hour. On February 15 Professor Kirchwey of Columbia will speak in Chapel and Reverend Dr. Guthrie will visit February --- English literature expert from University of the South.

Calendar of College Events Noted for February

A sequence of chapel services lectures and performances is listed from February 14 to February 20. Events include under graduate study basketball games at Alamnae-T. C. Thompson Gymnasium, chapel services at St. Pauls and Coop er Union Great Hall, lectures by Dr Guthrie and Prof Shotwell, and an organ recital at St Pauls Chapel.

Glee Club Rehearsal Prepares Savoy Performance

Dr Braun and Miss Weeks evaluated the Glee Club on Friday February ninth to decide if they should accept the Presbyterian Union invitation to sing at the Hotel Savoy on April first. Dr Braun encouraged the group and set new rehearsal times on Wednesdays at four and Fridays at noon.
