Barnard College students publish the Barnard Bulletin each week during the academic year except vacations and exam periods. The February 13 1925 issue marks volume twenty nine number fifteen of the student union publication.
The page lists the editor in chief Gertrude Gottschall and a diverse roster of editors and reporters through the late 1920s. It names Evinor Curtis Edith Blumberg Hannah Kahn Helen Williams Fanny Bokstein Louise Gottschall Rowena Ripin Harriet Willinsky May Friedman Marion Pinkussohn Ruth Perl and others. The business side is led by Bryan E. Mason with Faye Klawan and assistants.
The 1914 class honors Frederick A P Barnard, Columbia College president 1864 89 and early ally of women’s admission, while noting Columbia’s 1924 denial of women entry to the Law School. The piece argues future progress will erase the notion that women lack capacity for university education.
Miss Waterman describes Harvard graduate study as a detached scholarly venture with emphasis on grades and exams. The MA program weeds out for research and teaching, requires four B or above courses, language tests, and lacks a thesis. Professors Young Pearson Gay Munro and Taussig supervise her work at Harvard.
Professor Edman argues that Richard Kane and his sister illustrate a common dilemma for educated youths. He suggests a new class of practical idealists can blend art and civics with business life, though the path is difficult and not all Richards and sisters will fit.
A letter to the editor urges student pledges be paid immediately to establish the International Fellowship Fund. It notes fundraising surpassed 2000 in November, but finalization depends on completing payments by Friday the 20th, or deputies will inform Dean Gildersleeve.
Calls for next year are beginning to come in and seniors who have not completed their registration should do so as soon as possible.
