Barnard College announces semi weekly publication for the college year. The paper operates by student effort and is entered as second class matter at New York’s post office. Subscription rate is five dollars per year.
Bulletin invites South delegates visiting Barnard this week for an exchange of ideas on race relations. It notes past exchanges offered mixed views of the North and urges openness, understanding, and cross cultural dialogue between Barnard students and Talladega College delegates from Alabama.
Selma honors this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner Reverend Martin Luther King who spent part of last week in jail for breach of peace.
Yale will allow women visitors in dormitory rooms every day of the week, replacing the prior weekend-only hours. President Kingman Brewster Jr. called the old schedule sensible, while the change aims to reduce inconvenience in certain situations as noted by the New York Times.
The Citizenship Council invites volunteers for tutoring and service in hospitals settlement houses and social centers including psychiatric and government offices. The College of Columbia University will offer an NDEA Summer Institute in English as a Second Language to train teachers for working with students who do not speak English. Open to sixty participants with bachelor's degrees, the program runs July 5 to August 12 and requires minimal speaking ability in the students' foreign language and TC admission standards.
Miss Dorothy Fae Prince a faculty member at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College Greensboro will spend this semester in Miss Jean Palmer's office as part of the Internships in Academic Administration program. Sponsored by the Ellis L Phillips Foundation the program trains capable young people in college administrative processes. Prince, Professor of Education and Psychology in Greensboro, studied at Oberlin Syracuse and Indiana universities and came from Sarah Lawrence where she worked last semester under Acting Dean Esther Haushen bush. Participants are recommended by a supervisor who sees potential for administrative leadership.
The Institute in cooperation with the U S Office of Education offers nine semester hours of graduate credit for teachers who observe ESL classes in New York City and teach in a laboratory school. Teachers College will pay participants 75 dollars weekly plus 15 dollars per dependent and provide housing at International House.
Wigs and Cue Workshop stages four short plays at 7 and 9 pm in Minor Latham Playhouse Green Room on February 19. The selections include The Shadow of the Glen by John Millington Synge, A Social Success by Max Beerbohm, The Red Eye of Love by Arnold Weinstein, and The Bald Soprano by Eugene Ionesco.
A reader writes that the Class of 65 should decide Senior Week by its 375 members, not a small group of 30 seniors with no involvement from some sophomores and juniors. The letter defends broader student input over a limited executive group.
