Students Poll Opinion On Dormitory Co op
A poll gauges student views on a proposed cooperative work system for Residence Halls to offset a projected deficit. A tentative budget suggests a possible 85 rise, with the dean saying it cannot exceed 50 to keep annual expenditures under 1500. A committee of Frances Conway, Margaret De Vecchi, Barbara Stone, Julia Bentley and Betsy Leeds presented findings that savings come from reducing hired services, especially maid service. A partial co op would involve students cleaning and inspecting rooms with weekly maid service, while a full plan could cost 50 more and involve student workers in elevators and the switchboard. Cafeteria style dinners were also proposed to cut costs. The administration reserves final policy, awaiting full poll results. An open student meeting is set for Wednesday February 9 with a 5:30 p.m. cafeteria dinner and 6 p.m. discussion chaired by Mary E. MacDonald and others.
