Dr Robert Douglas Spencer died January 2 at 79. He claimed to have performed about 100000 abortions from 1923 to 1968 in Ashland Pennsylvania. He ran a private clinic offering surgical abortions with standard hospital equipment. Spencer drew students from Eastern colleges and faced three arrests for illegal abortions, all resulting in acquittals. Survived by his wife and thousands of grateful parents.
