The Barnard Bulletin is issued semi weekly during the college year by Barnard College students for the Undergraduate Association. It carries notice of second class matter entry dated October 19 1928 at the New York Post Office under the 1879 act.
The editorial critiques a recent university antiwar conference noting productive study groups but denounces grandiose debates and a drift toward militancy. It questions the delay of a neutrality resolution and warns that mass protests may undermine peace by abandoning strict neutrality. It urges individuals to pursue peace without mass action.
In a Barnard Bulletin letter the Spanish Club denies evading the law and defends why notices for the Spanish Caravan remained on Milbank blackboards while Anti-War Conference notices were erased. The writer laments the unequal publicity and expresses regret over the incident.
A collection of quirky wishes and daydreams includes desires to tour Grand Central, visit a YWCA cubby, dance with Fred Astaire, ride Fifth Avenue with a police escort, explore caves by candle, live near Mrs Dionne, breeze subway station chains, join a nudist colony, marry a billionaire, and celebrate a drunken arrest on the hundredth birthday.
A New York conference on women’s work in public affairs noted government service employs more women than any sector. Speakers including Dr. Leonard White and Dr. Thomas Reed urged civil service exams, writing and speaking training, and networked politics, while stressing merit over party favors.
The review calls the film a makeshift feature with a forced plot and many bylines. Ginger Rogers plays Carol Corliss a film star who becomes agoraphobic after a robbery and disguises herself with fake teeth a wig and glasses. George Brent as Emo Muir helps her and the plot includes running about and a mix of songs and dances.
The Dissolute Years offers a vivid pageant of James I era with court intrigue and romance. Its history is loose and speculative yet the narrative around Lady Arabella Stuart and the Prince of Wales remains dramatic. As history it lacks accuracy but as romance it is exciting and well worth reading.
