Paterson Silk Strike Draws College Students
Ten students from Barnard City College Columbia and Hunter enrolled in the Intercollegiate Student Council visited Paterson New Jersey as part of a series of student activities amid a silk strike now in its eighth week. The workers demand a 10 hour day minimum wage and union recognition. The strike stems from worsening conditions since 1924 with skilled workers earning about 32 a week and unskilled around 20 in earlier years, while the same hours now yield smaller pay and productivity has risen.
