Barnard College announces a weekly issue published through the college year with a short break in the last two weeks of January. The statement identifies the student group as the publishing body and notes periodical frequency.
In Brinckerhoff Theater sixty plus freshmen sophomores juniors and seniors cluster for a Grecian tug of war. Sixteen students grip a white handkerchief as eight pull each direction while three faculty members observe from plush seats with pencils.
A vivid chronicle describes a campus shift from raw rivalries between Freshman and Sophomore classes to a staged, orderly gymnasium pageant at Columbia Gymnasium. Spectators cheer as students present music, dance and pantomime with lavish production, trustees, programs, and color, signaling a move from riotous display to structured, dignified competition.
At the regular undergraduate meeting on Tuesday, April 11, nominations will be held for the undergraduate president position for the class of 16-17. Other business will also be discussed at the meeting.
Dues must be paid before you can vote. Drop in mailed envelope in junior treasury box before nine o'clock on Wednesday. Dues 75 cents, February freshmen 35 cents.
Students vote Wednesday April 12 from 9 to 3 in the Reception Room under a new preferential system. The Undergraduate meeting said results will be announced at 4 near the tennis courts or on the main staircase if it rains.
The Student Council adopts preferential voting with first and second choices for Undergraduate offices. Ballots show first and second preferences. ballots are tallied by first choices and secondary second choices from those ballots. The method aims to elect a candidate representing majority sentiment and to finish voting in one day. Ruth Salom, 1916.
Winston Churchill, author of The Inside of the Cup, will lecture at Chanel on Thursday April 13 on The Paradox of Christianity and Democracy. Rabbi Stephen Wise of the Free Synagogue is announced Chapel speaker on Monday April 17.
