Nature accuses the Nobel Prize in science of bias and inequity awarding only half the prize value. Sir Fred Hoyle criticizes the selection committee for ignoring Jocelyn Bell’s pulsar discovery and cites underrepresentation of women among Royal Society scientists.
Elections week of April 21 fills seven Dorm Council offices including President Vice President Secretary Treasurer Food Chairperson Social Chairperson and Special Events Chairperson. Candidates must see Judy Levitan or leave a message before April 14 at 871 Reid Box 458. the Dorm Council constitution will be voted on.
A reception on April 10 will inaugurate the Backus Poetry Collection in Brooks Hall. The gift, in memory of Louise Laidlaw Backus, includes $5,000 for maintenance and is available to Barnard students. Also announced is McAc’s new executive Board. officers are Andrea Katz, Martha Bakos, Casey Garrit, and Mary Anne Framento. A Health Careers lecture on Social Factors and Abortion by Sally Guttmacher is set for April 21 at noon in the McIntosh Recreation Room.
WBAI radio station hosts a Community Center Night benefit in the Grand Ballroom at the Hotel Diplomat on April 18 featuring bingo music a ping pong tournament clowns from Piccolo Circus and live bands with proceeds to WBAI 99.5 FM Tickets at the door or by mail to P O Box 12345 Church Street Station New York NY.
The Maison Francaise co sponsors a concert Friday April 11 at 8 p.m. featuring French jazzman Eroll Parker and his Contemporary Jazz Quintet at McIntosh Center. Tickets are 150 for students and 300 for others with a free wine tasting during intermission by Drie Liquor Corporation.
Mark Strand and James Reiss headline a poetry reading sponsored by McAe in Barnard Hall at 8 p.m. Tickets cost 1.00.
Bulletin apologizes for misinformation in the McAc article. McAc does not operate McIntosh Center. Only tripartite action occurs when the president and vice president sit on CAP. Executive board controls budget distribution. All committees submit membership lists with voting rights next year. C AO sponsors Spring Festival. McAc does not.
Ehrlich presented her discrimination case to Columbia University Senate members until President McGill ruled her out of order and adjourned the session.
