The Twentieth Century club hosted a meeting in Appleton for the state federation of women's clubs. Mrs. W H Hatch presented the Appleton report while officials from the Appleton Chamber of Commerce and local club welcomed delegates.
The junior class hosted the autumn dance in the gym decorated with corn stalks pumpkins and streamers. About 35 couples danced to Rodwell's orchestra with a Lemon dance noted as a favorite. Refreshments included cider and doughnuts. Robert Kasiska and Miss Helen McMahon won the prize box and the event was chaperoned by Mr and Mrs Herman Bogard Miss Maysel Evans and Warren Wright.
Wisconsin’s commercial potato crop is estimated at 15 600 cars up from 14 800 on Sept 1. The 1920 crop reached 26 000 cars, with 5 000 unsold from 1920. Oct 1 yield was 49 percent of normal, up from 45.6 on Sept 1 and 73 in 1920. Harvest delay and rains increased yields in many districts. Prices average 1 60 per 100 pounds, up from 1 23 last year and 1 75 in 1919.
D D Doane formerly of Baraboo died October 5 1921 in Geneva Florida at age 86 from heart failure while performing daily chores. Survived by wife and three sons Stuart M Arthur and Harlan. He helped run a Baraboo bakery in the 1880s and later moved to Florida where he was active in music and violin sacred tunes. He settled first at Newport SAuk County and later near Baraboo before moving south.
The jury in Edward J. Lawrence versus Chicago American retired after judge E Ray Stevens instructions in Madison The suit seeks 125000 dollars claiming the paper published defamatory articles related to the death of Richard Scott Lawrence who was killed by a Northwestern train on March 21 1918 The court left to the jury the decision on compensatory and punitive damages The plaintiff previously awarded 60000 dollars by a lower court A trial tension centered on whether the articles portrayed Lawrence as murderer and robber of his uncle.
A comical incident at Portage Fair when a Dassie allegedly exposed lax security by wandering barns and triggering alarms. Officials fled as cows and exhibitors faced chaotic moments, with staff scrambling for exits and a neighbor reporting the event to police.
William J. McKay died Wednesday in Madison at Methodist hospital aged 74. Survived by widow Mrs W J McKay three sons Paul Ray and Everette and daughter Helen McKay of Madison. Formerly pastor of the M E church in Baraboo.
Mr and Mrs W C Meyer celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary in Reedsburg with about fourteen friends responding to invitations from their daughters. They were surprised, enjoyed refreshments, and spent the evening playing cards. They received numerous fine presents.
Baraboo residents earned multiple prizes at the Madison Junior Livestock exposition. Donald and Kenneth Pierce won in baby beef and milking Shorthorns, Stanley Premo placed in yearling Angus and Duvoc Jersey events, George McGilvra Jr. took Jersey bull calf, and Lila Premo earned in lambs. About 200 calves, 100 pigs, and 5 lanks were shown. W H Premo assisted as an official.

The Mystic Workers hosted a large banquet and dance at the K P hall on Wednesday evening. More than one hundred members and families attended the six thirty dinner, with green and white decorations. Afterward, dancing continued to Terbibox orchestra until one in the morning, including square dances. The lodge plans more social events through the winter.
Baraboo's Warner Memorial highway will gain a 3.5 foot tar penetration shoulder using $5,000 formerly set for a bicycle path. Crushed quartzite will line the sides as hot tar covers it. The Devils Lake State Park road is finished and Baraboo will contribute later.

The Baraboo Business Women's club met at the Berk ley garage rooms and elected President Mrs. W. E. Baringer Vice president Miss Mary Kunzdeman Secretary Mrs. Daisy Long and Treasurer Miss Anita Palmer. Most officers remain unchanged. A membership drive and a big Hallowe'en party are planned for the coming year in their new club rooms.
August Klitzke was fined 10 dollars plus 72 dollars costs for assault in the case heard by Justice H L Halsted. His wife Mrs Hugo Klitzke was the injured party. Brothers Reinholt and Hugo and witnesses testified against August after a late night family gathering on September 25. William Zauke and his wife faced no charges as their case was dismissed.
Gilbert Flemming of Sparta, manager and player on the Sparta ball team, died a few days ago after a head injury at the Hillsboro tournament. He was the son-in-law of Sheriff Torrence, survived by his wife and three children, with funeral plans in Elroy where he will be buried. His death was claimed not to be caused by the ball strike, and his brother James Flemming travels from this city to attend the funeral in Elroy.
Sauk County Traveling Library board met at the Carnegie Free Library in Baraboo with officers elected. Miss Kate Potter reported difficulties in keeping books in touch with rural schools, while C. B. Lester outlined county library needs and funding, noting 44 distribution stations and potential budget increases.
Mrs August Busacker of Lodi won a circuit court suit in Madison against Wisconsin Light and Power Co for 1600 in damages after a collision near Dane when a company truck struck their car injuring her. The suit originally sought 10000 and Dane county was a party but dropped before trial.
August Frederick Rodewald of Webster prairie dies at home at nine o clock Thursday morning after long rheumatic illness. A German born settler aged 72 came to the United States 44 years ago and has lived on the same farm since. Survived by wife, three sons August Milwaukee Herbert Pomona California Walter Baraboo, two daughters Adeline Hertzberg Milwaukee and Lillian Darrow Winfield.
William Grotemeyer of Loganville suffered a broken left wrist and flesh torn from the limb while shredding corn at work. The incident occurred in Loganville during farming activities.
