Humane Folks Elect Officers at Sauk County Humane Society
Sauk County Branch of the Wisconsin Humane Society held its annual meeting at the library. Officers were elected led by president H. E. Cole and treasurer L. S. Van Orden who reported $19.05 in disbursements. New members joined including J. Van Orden and Miss Josephine Matchett.

Spanish War Vets Meet in Baraboo This June
The twenty second annual encampment of the Department of Wisconsin United Spanish War Veterans will be held in Baraboo on June 23 to 25, chosen by the council at Sauk County Camp No 40 Baraboo. The Ladies Auxiliary convention runs on the same dates. Baraboo hosts department officers and State Auxiliary leaders.

Zona Gale Returns from New York Play Success
Portage author and playwright Zona Gale has come home from a three month stay in New York City where she oversaw the stage production of her story Miss Lulu Bett. The play reached its hundredth consecutive performance last Wednesday after debut at Belmont Theatre on December 27 under Brock Pemerton.

Public Schools Close Suddenl y for Scarlet Fever Outbreak
On Thursday pupils arrived to find the schools closed due to a scarlet fever case linked to Marjorie Dillenbeck. The health board closed the buildings and moved up the Easter vacation by two days. Many teachers returned home for until April 4 or until reopening. Mrs. Leslie Goman is also ill.

Farmer Near Portage Sees Birds Theft and Egg Decline
Ceven Christopherson near Portage kept a loaded shotgun after a theft of seventeen turkeys three years ago. Recently, a flock of over one hundred fowls lost two dozen top Plymouth Rock layers, dropping eggs from about fifteen daily to one. A prowler or poultry expert may be involved. the dog’s warning was ignored and the gun is cleaned and ready again.

C H Grubb witnessed the Manston scene where AL Judd’s barn, over 100 feet long, housed 40 No 10 steel humane stanchions. The cyclone crushed the timber frame but 38 cows were unharmed thanks to the stanchions. Judd plans rebuilding with more humane stanchions to prevent future losses.
