A maintenance fund was started with contributions including one from Mrs. G W McCready. Myron T Herrick may be the new envoy to France.

Big Love Suit Dismissed In Janesville Court
Arthur S. Hatch sued Frank B. Johnson Jr. for 80000 claiming his wife Eva Simon Hatch won another’s love. After three hours of closed proceedings the case was dismissed on its merits and all records ordered destroyed. Mrs Hatch appeared fashionable and composed as the court adjourned.

Quarantine violator jailed in Baraboo
Julius Koeppe of Reedsburg was arrested this week for violations of quarantine regulations and confined in Baraboo county jail pending case disposition. He lived with brother William whose home was under quarantine for diphtheria last week. He allegedly ignored the health officer’s orders. William Koeppe’s infant child died from the disease last Sunday.

Miss Julia Cady Returns From Eight Months West
Miss Julia Cady came back Monday after an eight month stay in the West and South. She visited Colorado Springs and Denver and directed the Art Theater Orchestra in Kansas City for six months. She plans a summer at her home here and has often played the violin in Baraboo.

Woman Pioneer Mrs George Connell Dead in Portage
Mrs George Connell died at her Portage home 720 West Cook street after a weeklong illness due to age. Born Joanna Cushing in Ireland January 14 1838 she came to America aged three and settled in the eastern states before moving to Portage seven decades ago. She married George Connell in 1858 and is survived by nine children and a brother and sister in Wisconsin and Illinois, with relatives in Canada and Oregon.

U S Tax Receipts Exceed Estimates
Treasury Secretary Mellon announced March tax receipts topped 700 million dollars, about 125 million above the March 15 maturities. He said the 125 million would pay floating debt, and that treasury certificates outstandings were at par or a premium in open markets. He authorized cash redemption of April 15 1921 certificates at par with accrued interest, effective April 1 1921.

Remains of Portage Soldiers Return From France
The bodies of Portage soldiers Thomas W. Clarey Jr Kenneth G Buglass and Walter Ryan arrived by train from Hoboken at midnight. Clarey born 1893 was killed at Cantigny May 11 1918 leaving parents and four sisters. Buglass born in Portage lived in Baraboo and died July 18 1918 from wounds near Soisy sur Seine. Ryan born 1896 near Portage was killed at Cantigny May 9 1918. Funerals scheduled for Buglass Sunday and for the other two Monday in a double service.

Fire Starts in Heart of City
A large blaze at the rear of the Stewart Alexander Lumber company on Broad street destroyed the shed and lumber inside. The fire, aided by a southwest wind, drew attention from uptown as residents moved cars from nearby garages and lights were shut off citywide. Fire crews arrived quickly and contained the flames. origin is undetermined, and the shed was insured.
