Death of Reedsburg Soldier in France
Mrs. Anton Hillman of Reedsburg reports in a France cable that her husband died in a hospital there from diphtheria on March 12. He left Reedsburg as a Company A member, served at Camp Douglas and Waco before going to France, and was the second member of the company to die, after Walter Jennings of Bear Creek. He worked at Reedsburg Broomworks and married Ferdanna Schultz last April. his parents live in Nebraska.

Kilbourn Young Man Killed by Train at Portage
Walter Peterson age 26, a signal maintainer for the Milwaukee road, was killed in Portage at the west end of the CNMP yards when the gasoline motor car he rode was struck by a locomotive. The jury ruled death an accident between 7 and 8 p m March 20 1918 with no blame assigned. Peterson had left Kilbourn at 6 p m with J O Bauer. Bauer left Portage minutes later. Unseen circumstances and guesses surrounded how the car was struck.

Historic Relic: John Brown Pike Linked to Harper's Ferry
Jacob Tegerdine presented L. S. Van Orden with a pike used by John Brown's forces at Harper's Ferry. Made in Collinsville Connecticut in February 1857, the weapon was part of Brown's effort to arm his provisional government.
