Over sixty attendees including seniors and instructors enjoyed a banquet, program, and dance with Rodwell orchestra providing music. Portage Man Held on Charge of Desertion and Abandonment
Bernard Bergerson of Portage, a former Poynette resident and tobacco warehouse worker, was arrested in La Crosse and returned to Portage on a wife desertion and child abandonment charge. He had shortened his name to Berger and deserted his wife and five children about a year ago. He is brother-in-law to Mrs. Martin Brekke of Lewiston. Preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, in Justice F. W. Kiefer's court.

He was arrested near Independence Trempealeau County on burglary charges involving the Oneida hotel pool room and Cushings Grocery and is suspected in other robberies.
