Baraboo Farmers Mutual Holds Annual Meeting
The Baraboo Farmers Mutual Insurance company met January 8 at the courthouse with a small turnout. R. R. Thomas presided and a committee of George Carpenter Frank Morley and Herman Voll was named to study lightning protection for next meeting. Directors were elected from several towns and officers reorganized. The forty first annual statement showed receipts and losses, with total in force about 2.64 million dollars and losses paid around 60 thousand for 1917. The year’s largest loss involved a building without lightning rods prompting further committee work.

Chief William Lubcke of Elroy reports 14 year old Edward Lyons of Brockway ran away to celebrate the new year. The boy arrived on the head end of No 10 Wednesday morning and was placed in custody. His father came down the late train and took him home. Edward said reading yellow back novels spurred his departure and he enjoyed outdoor roving with a gun. He had attended Manchester school and will be glad to return home.
