Senate Passes War Revenue Bill After Long Debate
After a 13 hour session in Washington, the senate approved the war revenue bill with a tax yield of 5.978 billion for this year and a provisional 4 billion for 1920. Senator La Follette of Wisconsin spoke for three hours, offering a substitute to raise more from excess war profits which was defeated 55 to 6. The chamber trimmed luxuries taxes to 10 percent, and struck out taxes on certain clothing.
