Adolph F. Beck, about 50, was bound over to the circuit court after being arraigned on burglary of Mayor Adolph Andro's office. Beck allegedly stole 160 dollars, was captured by the mayor in the Third ward, and the money was recovered. Beck denied the prior similar theft and waived examination.
The Skillet Creek Farmer's Club gathered Friday evening at William Toole's home with Mrs. Alexander Smith presiding. Reports, programs on Pilgrims and Thanksgiving followed by recitations and music. Officers elected: President Mrs. Alexander Smith, Vice-president Timothy Towle, Secretary Treasurer Mrs. E. C. Kunzelman. Delegates chosen for Sauk County Country Life association. next meeting at George Carpenter’s in three weeks.
The Reedsburg Chamber of Commerce board discusses street lighting options for Main Street and access routes to the depot. A $1000 city appropriation is reported if citizens match or raise the balance. President George T. Morse appoints committees on good roads publicity civic improvement entertainment credentials industrial and membership.
Blasting near Devils Lake signals road widening by American Refractories Company workers aided by state teams. The firm, expanding a new plant east of the lake, funds most work in the state park to provide a safer, better route to Baraboo and reduce accident fears.
After Mr. Kramer’s lecture on Fighting Moonshiners at the First M E church Sauk County citizens formed a local branch of the Dry Law Enforcement league. T B Towle was named president with Frank Morley vice president W S Pease secretary treasurer and an executive committee including J T Bates O S Ballinger H C Neitzel Will Halsted H Sigglekow George Hanson Sidney Wakefield. The group will hear complaints of alleged dry law violations and present them to session of the league for action, noting state and federal jurisdiction coexist.
The Rev. Ralph B. Hindman of First Presbyterian Portage reports the loss of his prized Bible with personal annotations. A Portage Register editor humorously calls it a disarmament case and urges a citywide search for the book. Anyone with knowledge is urged to return it without questions.

The funeral of Mrs. Bertha Anderson, found dead from gas fumes at her daughter’s Madison home, was held Thursday. Police investigated the death as gas-related.
Mrs. F A Nehs writes of leaving Baraboo November 22 for Florida spending winter near St Peters burg. They mention routes via Madison to Tampa area meeting acquaintances, weather contrasts, mosquitos, torn porch shielding, and local life with prices and early tourist activity noted.
The will of the late James Dickie filed for probate leaves all property to relatives. Inventory lists about 100000 in assets including a Fourth Avenue harness shop valued at 6000. Executors and beneficiaries include Charles L Dickie Portland Oregon and Margaret OD Hill Baraboo with trust provisions for Nellie J Dickie and further bequests to Henry L Dickie Margaret D Hill Agnes Brown and Robert M Dickie all siblings sharing equally. Will dated October 8 1921. Dickie died October 13 1921.
During a heavy rainfall Thursday night several vehicles slid off the road near Baraboo. Some required towing back onto the pavement as visibility dropped and drivers struggled to see.
The L. S. C. held its Thursday meeting with 27 members and one visitor present. Mrs. Hammermiester was elected the new president. Officers approved the 4th quarterly and year ending Nov 30 1921 reports, noting 91.64 start, 283.40 receipts, and multiple disbursements. One new member joined after a visiting session. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Cleveland and Mrs. Joe Bisch.
The Lady Foresters hosted a banquet for Father E C O Reilly and 53 guests involved in the Irish Relief drive. They announced the drive raised 1300 dollars and heard a talk praising Baraboo’s leadership and fundraising success. Father O Reilly thanked all helpers for the grand result.
A thief entered the mayor Adolph Andro's office near Rowland Shoe Co. on Thursday and stole about $160 from the till. The suspect fled down Walnut street where mayor intervened and, with W I Stortz, dragged the man into a car for police. Burglar tools and stolen money were found on the suspect, who awaits a hearing.
The Sauk County Country Life Association will hold its annual meeting at the Baraboo Methodist Church on Friday and Saturday December 9 and 16. An expanded program includes entertaining numbers for Friday night and talks by Merlin Hull G W Davies J S Donald Supt A C Kingsford S M Thomas Earl Thomas and other leaders to interest both rural and urban residents.
The Publishers of the Youth's Companion send subscribers a 1922 calendar prepaid with their subscription. The calendar features red and dark blue printing, bold current month days, and miniature adjacent months in the margin.
F C Keith, Baraboo, owner of the Gem theatre, attended the funeral of his father C B Keith, 73, an Alva Oklahoma resident. Death was from apoplexy. Surviving children include M A Keith of Lambert, W W ith of Cheyenne, L L Preston of Tulsa, and O E DeVillicriss of Oklahoma. A Masonic funeral service was conducted.
The local O E S chapter at the Masonic hall elected officers Thursday evening. Worthy matron Mrs Minnie Groth Worthy patron Frank B Moss Assistant worthy matron Mrs Olga Mould Conductress Mrs Agnes Gerber Assistant conductress Miss Maude Archer Secretary Mrs Mae Moog Treasurer Mrs Mary Andrews. At the next meeting several candidates will be initiated and the Delton chapter invited to attend.
Ode Montgomery, a Black man from Portage and French Indian background, is taken to Minneapolis on auto theft charges. He asks a lawyer to defend him, but rejects the attorney when questioned, saying he wants a different lawyer. The Minneapolis Daily News reports the exchange ended without representation.
The Effinger building at 124 Ash Street south of the City hotel is getting a new floor and improvements for the Gem City Dairy company to be run by M. D Sherwood.
Two federal officers arrived in Baraboo on Friday and checked local drug stores to verify liquor sales matched prescriptions. One pharmacist was told his stock was a fraction of a gallon under the prescribed amount, likely due to evaporation, while another was praised for efficient liquor handling.
Reverend J R Denyr traced his missions from Singapore to Java Borneo and China. He warned that China’s rise and Prussianized modernization could shift world power, urging reduced armaments and pro orient discourse to influence Asia within twenty years. He cited China’s educated youth and cheap labor as key factors shaping the Pacific balance.
