Dane County Fair Promises Best Show Yet
The 1916 Dane County fair runs August 29 to September 1 in Madison with $8,500 in race purses and free attractions. Features include a 1000 dollar free-for-all pace, 2:08 pace, 2:17 trot, six races daily, aero acts, Wilbur Society circus, wrestling by Casey and Ohnstad, and three parachute balloon drops daily. The grounds span 120 acres, hosting 30,000 people and 5,000 cars with modern exhibits and livestock facilities.

Fall on bluff injures young man near Devils Lake
At about 10 o clock Lawrence Newell of Kirkland fell while descending a bluff near the American Refractories property at Devils Lake. He was knocked unconscious briefly, aided by Meyers of Hinsdale and two Baraboo girls, then treated by a Baraboo doctor and reported as progressing well the next morning.

Visitors tour Farmers Cooperative packing plant near Madison
More than 200 visitors from Ironton Ableman La Valle and Baraboo toured the Farmers Cooperative packing plant east of Madison. Soldiers hope for early return home from Texas camp

Brother Is Killed In Great War
Rev. J W Johnson pastor of the Baptist church in Baraboo has received news that his brother was killed in action on July 14 during the European war. Another brother remains at the front and three more have signed for service awaiting the call. The father, a retired mine superintendent aged seventy two, was reported at the point of death and resides in England.
