Monroe Mayor Bars Gollmar Circus Parade

Monroe Mayor R D Gorham refused to grant a parade permit for Gollmar Bros circus in Monroe citing town over entertainment. Merchants plan to urge the common council to overrule him and allow the parade and circus to pass through the city streets.

Baraboo Prepares Welcome for Wisconsin Press Editors

Baraboo Kiwanis club plans a reception and events for about one hundred Wisconsin Press Association editors and their companions during the August 4 automobile tour. A pilot car will meet guests at Kilbourn, with lake trips, swimming, bluff climbing, a picnic dinner, and a band concert. Evening theater at Al Ringling is booked, and overnight stays are arranged.

Local Baraboo Ticket Office Burglarized

A burglar broke into Baraboo’s ticket office between noon and 12:30 yesterday, failing to steal due to safekeeping. The intruder forced entry via the men’s waiting room door. a suspect, taken to the county jail, was later released after no evidence emerged.

Compulsory Education Talk At Kiwanis Luncheon

Christian Meier of Chicago spoke on Compulsory Education at the Kiwanis luncheon. He noted his role in Illinois education law, contrasted literacy rates in Switzerland and Denmark with the U.S., and linked education to reduced crime. Delegates to Green Bay Kiwanis convention were chosen, and fair support and Wisconsin Press association plans were discussed.

Bad Accident on Kilbourn Road Near St Michael's Cemetery

A Ford sedan rolled over on Kilbourn road near St Michael's cemetery injuring Mr Rullman his wife and daughter from Chicago The man suffered a severely broken arm and the daughter a facial cut The party was aided by a passing motorist and transported to Kilbourn for further care with plans to return to Chicago later.

Cheese Factory at Lime Ridge Burns Down

The Lime Ridge cheese factory and nearby ice house and buildings were destroyed by fire discovered around eight in the morning. Only a few pieces of equipment survived, including a pair of scales and a tank. Loss is estimated at about $3000. Owner John Dipkerman of Washington near Hillpoint operated the facility this past season.

Co G Heads to Camp Douglas for Two Weeks Training

Members of Co. G the local National Guard unit depart Baraboo aboard a special train for Camp Douglas for two weeks of intensive training. The group includes headquarters troops 22nd division cavalry from Madison and an infantry unit from Janesville. Reedsburg company joins in transit. The roster lists Captain Paul Stewart and officers with a full list of NCOs and privates.

Local people return from motor trip

Mr and Mrs J H Erswell and Mrs James Heffel finished a ten day automobile tour through Chippewa Barron and Rusk counties visiting relatives in Chippewa Falls Holcombe and Mount Flambeau The trip notes a recent hail storm and tornado causing crop and factory damage near Chippewa Falls Old Abe was captured at Mount Flambeau The party recalls drownings in Lake Wissota and at Chippewa linking to local families.

The Williams College undergraduate publication in Williamstown Massachusetts suspends 26 editorial board members for 12 days after releasing an indecent and obscene comic issue.

Masquerade at Country Club Pavilion Draws Packed Crowd

A Friday masquerade at the Country Club Pavilion near Devils Lake featured a Turkish wedding themed act with harem maidens and a 25 member cast from Baraboo and Devils Lake. The Terbibox orchestra provided music as crowds filled the hall, with costly costumes and a donated venue from Fred Kellogg.

Big Pearl Display From Baraboo River Gems

A Portage window shows a collection of Wisconsin pearls owned by Charles Ducky Clemmons. The Baraboo river yielded a 16 gram blue pearl from the D. H. Grady farm area, the largest found near Portage, noted for its size and near perfect shape with a minor defect repairable by setting.

Woman's body found in Lake Mendota Madison

Unidentified woman about 35 found floating 40 feet from the University of Wisconsin Women's Pier in Lake Mendota. Coroner notes minimal lung water, suggesting death from non drowning causes. Dean of Women checks Madison rooming houses for clues.

Kingsford Elected President At State Undertakers Meet

Mr and Mrs A S Kingsford returned from Fond du Lac where about 460 undertakers attended a three day state convention. Kingsford was elected president and delivered the welcome address response. A banquet and ball with 500 guests followed sessions in the Armory. The Marquette University chair of embalming faces a 475 deficit and may be discontinued. Next year’s convention likely in Eau Claire.

Baraboo Defeats Oxford In 9 4 Baseball Victory

Baraboo baseball team beat Oxford 9 to 4 Sunday at Devils Lake. Oxford scored first, Baraboo surged with nine runs in following innings. DuCharme Haugh Fellows and others had two base hits. Crowd attended. Lineup included Cooper Elliott Haugh Fellows DuCharme Dubois Curtis Frazer Mould.

Ford Car Accident Breaks Arm of Reedsburg Crew Boss

Brad Keeler, manager of Reedsburg Cleaning and Dye Works, was driving a Ford coupe when a rut caused his left forearm to break as he reached through the spokes to regulate the gas. Miss Hilda Glue of LaValle visited the city on business.

Auxiliary to Sons of Veterans Picnic Delight At Devils Lake

The Sons of Veterans auxiliary hosted a picnic at Nippy Nook cottage on Devils Lake. About 75 guests attended a cottage supper with many in attendance including Miss Nellie Swetland and her relatives Mrs Amanda Allen and Delfi Allen of Manston.

Chief Baker of Racine had Sheriff N W James of Racine county arrested for violating a traffic ordinance. The sheriff was found guilty but sentence suspended. Sheriff James appealed to the circuit. His case will come up at the full term of court.
