Wisconsin Press Association Members Tour Baraboo Area

Baraboo welcomed about 125 Wisconsin Press Association members and families arriving from Kilbourn for the annual auto tour. The group visited Devils Lake and the Warmer Memorial road, enjoyed a state launch ride, and a 6:30 cafeteria supper hosted by the Kiwanis. Morning departure to Reedsburg followed a city tour led by local Chamber of Commerce escorts.

Henke Recalls East Trip At Kiwanis Luncheon

Portage Warns of Oily Doctor Targeting Reedsburg Area

Portage officials alert the public to a traveling impostor calling himself Dr. L H Davis who takes upfront fees for supposed treatments. A Paynette couple lost 100 dollars after his vow to restore health within three months. The man, described as 6 ft 1 in, 225 pounds, with gray streaked hair, rode in a Columbia car and was seen in Portage and possibly Reedsburg. Separately, 14 year old Arthur Mendenwald drowned in Maxham pond after going beyond his depth. body recovered six thirty by Palmer Smith. He leaves four sisters and his confirmed Lutheran parents on La Valle street.

Car Strike Delays Trains to Baraboo

Northwestern passenger trains from Chicago to Baraboo were delayed by Chicago street car strikes and shopmen work stoppages. The 9:00 a m arrival reached 10 45 a m and the 2 10 p m arrival posted after 3 00 p m on Wednesday.

Editors join trips, tour to Devils Lake and Baraboo

County highway commissioner now on the static highway commission joined editors last evening at Devils Lake and accompanied them today. Brownie from the Milwaukee Journal led the pilot car as the group toured Wisconsin sites, with a concert at Baraboo and a visit to the Al Ringling theatre. A bound Know Wisconsin First booklet was given to each editor, detailing the route and timetable as a keepsake and information source.

Speed Cop Overzealous In Wisconsin Tourists Case

J T Donaghey a former North Freedom resident and Sauk County highway official says a speed cop near Wonewoc acted too aggressively as he and other state highway commission members were stopped for allegedly traveling under 30 mph while the car ahead was cited for 38 mph. He expects the incident to go to court in a lively case.

Farmers Hold Auto Race and a Fist Fight

Harold Lietz and Fred Harms, both Ripon farmers, clashed in an improvised auto race and fist fight. Harms was charged with obstructing traffic. Lietz pursued charges after the episode. Harms pleaded guilty to speeding. Lietz was fined $50 and costs, with Lietz promising an appeal to circuit court.

School Census Shows Decrease in City Population

Miss Rose Ketchum completed the school census listing 1448 children aged 4 to 21 in the city. The 1921 count was 1464, a decrease of 16 in the school age population from last year.

Local National Guard Company Starts Camp Duty Night

Baraboo Forms Layman's Christian Fundamentals League

A new Baraboo organization named The Layman's Christian Fundamentals League, led by O. S. Ballinger, affiliates with the World’s Christian Fundamentals association. It vows to defend the Bible as absolute truth, rejects evolutionary ideas, and invites all interested men to join.

New Light Service Advances Toward City Connection

Wisconsin Power Light and Heat seeks approval from the railroad commission to issue 163700 dollars in securities to fund a high-tension transmission line from Fond du Lac to Beaver Dam with a branch to Dane village. The line will enable Baraboo Madison Beaver Dam and other served points to use Fond du Lac steam plant as auxiliary to Prairie du Lac plant. Commission expects approval.
