Local boxers win and draw in Bandera Park bouts

A Friday boxing tournament at Bandera Park produced several results with many local and San Antonio boxers. Tinney defeated Mazurek by knockout in the third, draws occurred for Garza vs Garza and Rodriguez vs Whitley, and Diaz edged Gonzales in the third.

Mr and Mrs Franklin Simon return from South Texas with plans for a two day race program at the local track two miles west of the city on Bennie s U Bar Ranch. They aim to feature famous Texas horses for the event promising top race entertainment for horse lovers.

William R. Stokes Dies Suddenly at 43 in Bandera

William Riley Stokes 43 passed away here last Saturday night from a heart attack. Funeral held Monday in Bandera cemetery with Rev. R Russell Heaner officiating. He operated the Ranch House Cafe on Main Street Bandera and is survived by his wife Isabel and three children from a former marriage.

Mrs Ed Turner Leaves Bandera Hospital After Wreck

Mrs Ed Turner returned home Monday after being treated at Bandera hospital for foot and leg injuries from a Sunday collision with a station wagon. Her husband Ed Turner and their four children were en route to Medina Lake when the crash occurred. Mary Jean and Laura Mae suffered serious bruises.

Miss Joyce Newcomer married Edward L Griffin on May 26 in Skagway Alaska. The bride, youngest daughter of Joe Newcomer Medina, taught in Haines for two years and studied at the University of New Mexico. Mr Griffin, son of Mr and Mrs Edward Griffin Big Spring SD, holds an engineering degree from the University of Minnesota and will work with Civil Aeronautics Association in Anchorage after a trip to White Horse Canada.

Texas Press Association guests to Bandera for 69th annual meeting

Verne Sanford of the Texas Press Association met Bandera leaders to arrange a visit for about 300 to 500 Texas newspaper men on Saturday June 19. The association holds its 69th annual meeting in San Antonio June 18 and 19 and will tour Bandera with a sight seeing ride to guest ranches a barbecue supper a rodeo and a western dance for the guests.

The Silver Dollar announces a new floor show featuring Shorty Hamilton the World’s Champion Cowboy Piano Player performing Friday Saturday and Sunday with matinee 3 to 5 and evening 8 o clock. Bandera Lions elect officers for coming year

Bandera Lions Club held its regular meeting to select officers for the year starting July. Nominees named include O. O. Adams as president and I E K Adamietz as second vice president with several directors proposed. Lion Nesting backed H L O'Spain for one director seat, while Lion Bright backed Howard Eckhart who won that nomination. About $1000 was raised for Lions Club movements during the year.

Bandera Tourist Association Plans Publicity Drive

The Bandera Tourist Association met at the courthouse Monday night with President Glendon Roberts presiding. The new constitution and by laws were read and discussed on third reading. They will be ratified with amendments voted by the membership. Plans were made to raise funds for advertising and publicity. The Stam pede financial report and recent event costs were reviewed showing a successful outcome. Follow up steps will aim to hire a full time publicity agent. Attendance was noted as needing to improve for the next meeting.

Bandera Electric Co-Operative District No 2 will hold a meeting at the court house in Bandera on Wednesday night July 7 at 8 o'clock. The purpose is to nominate a candidate for director.
