Miss Lillian Hildreth and Howard Knesal wed at the bride's mother's home with Rev. S W Pollard officiating. The couple plans to travel to Ismay then Powder River to establish the groom's ranch, with many local friends attending and sending best wishes.
Friday evening at the City Bakery the Commercial Club gathered for a discussion of important matters and a big feed. Rev. J. C Evans gave an encouraging speech for the club. A telegram was sent to Gov. Stewart urging signature on a bill appointing commissioners for federal aid for county roads. L. C. Burns is preparing a history of Medicine Rocks for the club.
The St Patrick's Day dance at the opera house on the 17th drew a large crowd. The Baker orchestra played superbly and the decorations were elaborate with green everywhere. The Ba-Mont Club hosted the event, delivering top notch entertainment as yearly celebrations end.
Sheriff Jones enforces a rule that to claim the state bounty the tail hide and four paws must be presented with the skin. Attorney General Ford orders hunters to comply, warning that fragmented skins must be gathered in full to receive payment.
The IL O. O. F. held a Monday evening meeting marking the lodge’s fifth anniversary. Rebekahs joined, with refreshments and dancing noted as part of the prominent festivities. Lucy Northrop, formerly Lucy Markin, died after a long illness in Whittier California. she was sister to Mrs. Ed Carey of Baker.
Washington and New York report the Supreme Court upholding the Adamson law as constitutional in a five to four decision. The ruling confirms an eight hour workday for interstate railroad workers, with retroactive pay beginning January 1 and about 25 percent wage increases, costing railroads 30 to 40 million dollars annually. The decision reinforces federal power to arbitrate disputes in businesses of public interest and ends fears of transportation paralysis. The mediation outcome has railroads agreeing to eight hours and pro rata overtime, with back pay estimated at 12 to 13 million dollars, pending final conference on punitive overtime.
Mrs. Mary F. Sanders died at her home in Indianapolis last Saturday from cancer after a failed operation in Rochester Minnesota. She had lived in Baker several years with her son Dr Morgan and was widely mourned by friends.
