Baker Firemen Frolic Delights Town With Annual Dance

The Baker Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual frolic at the Masonic hall drawing a large crowd. The hall was bright with decorations and the merrymakers filled the venue as the firemen delivered a well run party to close the old year and welcome the new one.

A large seasonable gathering at the Peerless Cafe heard reports on finances and club plans. Dignitaries elected to represent the club at a Lemmon conference discuss Yellowstone trail routing and campaign letters for Fallon County outreach.

Gullidge Discusses Montana Legislature and Vocation Plans

Speaker Gullidge outlined how a bill becomes law and noted many amendments and lengthy bills. He highlighted Montana’s gas resources and farming lands, plus sending representatives to the Bozeman Vocational Conference with three entrants, possibly five. A Commercial meeting on Jan 16 will elect new officers and address civic matters. Mr. and Mrs. N B Bergum returned from Mules City after Christmas with Mrs. Bergum’s sister.

Whist Tournament Set to Open Next Friday Eve

An upcoming whist tournament will begin next Friday night at Hubbard Hall at 8 o'clock. Entry is open to farmers and business people with the only obligation to attend nightly play as the event lasts several weeks. Captains are Dr W H P Blake and L E Barger. entries should be registered with Larry Busch at Al Hansen’s law office.

Christmas entertainments brighten Baker social scene

Mrs Jean Emerson hosted guests including Miss Louie Emerson and Miss Janette Price for a Tuesday evening party. Whist music and late lunch followed with prizes awarded to Miss Price and Mr Owen. Other attendees included Mrs Leon LaCross and Miss Jean Emerson. A separate gathering at the Yokley home featured Christmas dinner, cards, music, and dancing.

Frankland Named Undersheriff in Fallon County

Clyde Burrell has been sworn in as sheriff and appoints W B Frankland of Hay Creek as undersheriff. Frankland, a Fallon county resident since 1909, will base his home in Baker while the retiring F F Kelling leaves the post. Undersheriff Lee Butte plans a trip to Minneapolis and Burrell says he will pursue economy in his term.

Fallon county treasurer Charles Hiaitle reports improved tax collection for 1924 with delinquent taxes on farm and property down. premium lists for the Montana corn show in Miles City set for January 28 and 29 amid strong exhibitor interest. show events planned at Miles Block with a banquet and social dances to follow.

Plevna and Willard residents in city for final proofs

Geo Folmer of Plevna visited the city Monday to make final proof on his homestead. Frederick A Hartman from west of Willard came to complete final proof on his desert claim before U S Commissioner R W Russell.

Huge Egg From Powell Barnyard Stuns Locals

An eight by six and a half inch egg was laid by a small white pullet at Mrs. F. B. Kirkpatrick’s chicken yard north of Garland Wyoming. Mrs Kirkpatrick reported hens laid 23 eggs from her flock by December 2. The poultry setup includes a hillside coop with a warming system and sheltered roosts to withstand winter winds. Also noted are Mrs J C Freeman and Mrs Louie Emerson visiting relatives for the holidays.
