Baker residents woke to a new bank in town as the Baker National Bank opened in the former First National Bank building. The First National Bank of Fievna moved to Baker after approval for a location change, with E P O'Brien cashier and W H O Connell president aiding the quick move. The Baker National notes its eight-year history and continues serving the local community.

Arch ie Morgan Called By Death

Archie L Morgan of Plevna died at Miles City hospital on Tuesday afternoon after a brief illness with appendicitis He formerly worked in Milwaukee passenger service out of Miles City resigning last spring and has since run a store at Plevna He is survived by his widow and east relatives Funeral services were held in Miles City Presbyterian church with Rev Merton S Fales officiating. Floyd Collins trapped in Cave City Kentucky cave since thirteen days, hopes for rescue if alive.

Surprise Birthday Party for Mrs. Geo R Chapin

Mrs Geo R Chapin hosted a surprise party at her home on February 6 for her birthday. Attendees included Lizzie Stowe Donovan Soper Doering Couser Berry and the Misses Sanders Scott Lillian Wilcox and Margaret Shellabarger who joined in a lunch and candle blowing omen. Shellabarger sent a sugar bowl and cream pitcher as a gift though ill and absent she was remembered with food. The ladies spent a couple of hours visiting before leaving.

Baker Women's Club Holds Afternoon Session at Masonic Hall

The Baker Women's club gathered Tuesday at the Masonic hall. Members thanked the dance and child welfare committees for recent events and noted the use of the hall. A program featured notes on Lincoln, current events, a saxophone solo, and a Valentine luncheon. A special meeting is planned at Mrs Corbitt’s home with Mr Stapleton discussing Montana advertising.

Baker to gain new modern hospital with local doctors

The new hospital will serve Baker and southeast Montana and western Dakota areas. Dr Sherrill is a renowned Northwest surgeon joining Dr W H Young, who has practiced in Baker since 1909. The Elizabeth hospital has aided locals with nursing staff Saunders and Scott contributing service.

Stapleton Speaking at Commercial Club Luncheon

W P Stapleton of the Northern Pacific land department will speak at a noon luncheon next Wednesday February 18 at the Peerless cafe. The Commercial club meeting has been postponed one day and all business men and farmers are invited. Tolley Hartwick of Meredith praises the forthcoming corn show as a major factor in Montana corn production and hopes to attract more good farmers for better schools highways and neighbors.

Inquest Finds Mrs. Terrell Died by Strychnine Self-Administered

Coroner's jury returns verdict that Mrs Glen R Terrell died in Plevna Montana on December 22 1924 from voluntary self-administered strychnine poison. The inquiry followed notes from state chemist about stomach contents and testimonies from John Stender Ismay farmer and local hardware dealers.

Funeral for Mrs. A. Evers Held by Rev Seebart at Fertile Prairie

Baker residents attended the funeral Thursday for Mrs. A. Evers at Fertile Prairie. A quartet including Denzil Young Mel Schneider Rev Seevart and Lloyd Owens sang Rock of Ages and Lead Kindly Light. Mrs. Evers was remembered as a kind friend and mother who will be missed.

Fe Miss Theresa McGuire of Ismay visited in the city this week. Geo H Allen of Miles City was in Baker on business Monday. Mr and Mrs John Kesler were in Baker last Saturday from their farm south of Plevna. Mrs W W Holmes has returned from Miles City where she was with her mother Mrs Henry Hayes who is much improved. Chris Engberg of Ekalaka returned home Tuesday with a new 1925 Chevrolet demonstrator purchased from Burns Bros. Don’t miss the galvanized pail sale at the variety store on Saturday February 26. W T Ferguson visited the Sentinel office Saturday from Fetile Prairie, renewing his subscription for another year. In Denver a resident is in the city a few days with her husband Dr Sherrill. W T Maxwell returned from Wisconsin where his father’s illness led to his death. Word came that Master Thomas LeRoy Atkinson arrived Monday evening February 2 at the home of Mr and Mrs Atkinson south of here. the baby weighs 8 12 pounds and both mother and son are thriving.

Contract Let for Local Packing Plant

The contract for the storage and packing plant of the Peoples Exchange is set and orders placed for equipment including a 23 ton ice and refrigeration machine. The building will measure 61 by 28 feet and, when finished, be a modern packing house in southeastern Montana. Estimated cost is under $10,000 and cork board insulation will be used.
