Crawford Oil Hit at Longview Well Described in Telegram

A telegram received by G R Moshier reports G J Crawford hit oil at Crawford well No 1 in Longview. The well was drilled to sand top, oil in casing, and will be pumped after a Monday shutdown. Local interest follows Crawford’s noted East success and hints of future drilling in Baker field.

Masonic Picnic planned at Wildwood Park in early September

The Baker Masonic lodge hosts a picnic at Wildwood Park on the first Sunday in September inviting Masonic lodges from Ismay Olhe Ekalaka Marmarth to attend. Guests receive hospitality with free coffee sugar and cream while they bring their own dinners and dishes. Ice cream lemonade pop and confections will be sold on the grounds. Visiting brothers are warmly welcomed as guests with ample provisions.

County Commissioner Hasty Visits Custer County

J. H. Hasty, Custer County commissioner, arrived Saturday night after visiting Ismay with Miles City folks. He spent Sunday in Baker, then returned to Miles City and met Joe Deitz and Commissioner Miles Carrington at Plevna. Hasty praised Rudolph Nelstead for solid work as county attorney and predicted GOP nomination.

National party fair hosts visiting travelers tour western parks

Miss Geneva Biglow Gertrude Hankee and Nellie Gallup travel by auto to Baker arriving Wednesday. They have toured since June visiting Crater Lake National Park Yellowstone and Senate National Park in California. They travel home to St Paul praising Montana hospitality. Also in Baker are Mr and Mrs John Yergen and Miss Ethel Ewart now visiting Miles City with H E Stockhill. Mrs Booth arrives from Helena for a four year absence. Mr Booth to join September first.

Baker light plant struck by bolt during storm

C Madsen of the Baker light plant narrowly escaped death Friday night when a lightning bolt knocked him down as he reached for the switch to cut off power. The bolt sent the town into darkness for nearly an hour as fuses burned out and electricians from Miles City were called to repair the damage.

Former Fallon County resident visits for ranch sale

R O Dean, pioneer of Fallon County now living in Pacific Beach Washington, returned from the west coast to oversee an auction sale at his Baker ranch four miles northeast. He plans to return after renewing old acquaintanceships and is related to the Hasty Murphy Damons and Ridgeway families.

City Suffered Severe Rain and Lightning Storm Last Friday

Local reports recount a powerful storm that struck the Baker region with heavy rain and vivid lightning Friday night. The outage left most of the city in darkness, except a few gas-lit businesses, as electric services failed.
