Washington Aug 8 The Senate approved Food Bill 66 by a 66 to 7 vote. With the President's signature the measure becomes law, placing a minimum two dollars on wheat and regulating numerous products.
Late Wednesday the senate moved the food control bill toward final passage. It grants broad government control over foods fuels and production essentials, authorizes the president to coordinate agencies, and appoints Herbert Hoover food administrator. The measure limits alcohol, fixes minimum wheat prices, and funds federal purchase and administration of fertilizers and essentials.
Sheridan county farmers plan a complete county slate for next year including state senate and house seats. They argue old party lines are broken and dissatisfaction with past county governance fuels the push. Business leaders in many towns are anticipated to support the farmer movement.
Figures from the United States Geological Survey indicate railroads consumed about ten million tons of bituminous coal and nearly three fourths of a million tons of Pennsylvania anthracite in 1916. Bituminous coal use rose by about 14 million tons from 1915, while anthracite consumption grew modestly.
Montana attorney general argues workers compensation does not cover occupational diseases.
