The Chattanooga Times reports a new Southern System main stem that would give Chattanooga an independent sea connection, linking with the Tallahassee Bainbridge Western line via Columbus. Birmingham capitalists back the project, with surveys complete and large land donations pledged along the line through Georgia and into Florida. The route would pass Rome Cedartown Columbus and Bainbridge, traversing cotton, lumber and mineral districts and tying into Savannah via LaGrange.
