The document records an ordinance approved April 4th by Mayor Mougan restricting sale of intoxicating liquors to minors or in ways that foster disorder. It outlines penalties including fines up to fifty dollars or imprisonment for up to days, and states enforcement by the mayor and local authorities.
A fragmented legal notice from Desatur County outlines an ordinance about artesian cup teas and related properties. It names Vervell as widow and minor child, mentions settlement procedures, and sets a court date in May next with a special farm order.
Bainbridge, county seat of Decatur, Georgia, sits at the Flint River with year round navigation. Court House door Valier County will sell at public auction all lands of unpaid taxes levied on by writ issued by W J Grimes sheriff. The sale follows a judgment against the estate and will occur at the next term. Proceeds to satisfy the mortgage and costs.
An old advertisement touts Bosehe's German Syrup as a universal remedy for coughs throat and lung ailments including consumption pneumonia and asthma. It claims quick relief after three doses and urges Druggists to recommend it to the poor. It notes high sales and lists price at 10 75 cents with sample bottles mentioned.
The British steamer Benison, en route from Matanzas to Philadelphia under Captain Aikenhead, reports a collision in dense fog with the steamer Eureka from New York to New Orleans. Eureka is missing after the fog lifted. Benison remained afloat due to watertight compartments.
A Dublin man once a confirmed drunkard, recorded near Cork for health, abandoned strong drink after prayers at Metropolitan Hall. His sister urged prayer for him, and a hundred miles away the act was later described by a surgeon present. The episode illustrates expected mercy and salvation.
