Washncrox D C March 9 The president today sent to the senate the following nominations Judson C Clements of Georgia to be inter state commerce commissioner vice Walter Bragg ceased and Wm Lindsay declined Sketch of his life Judson C Clements of Rome was born in Walker county Ga February 12 1846 educated in the schools of that county also in the law school of Cumberland University at Lebanon Tenn was admitted to the bar and began the practice of law in 1869 at Lafayette Ga and has continue in the same till the present time was elected representative in the general assembly of Georgia in 1872 for the term of two years and reelected in 1874 was elected state senator in 1877 was elected to the forty seventh forty eighth forty ninth and fiftieth congresses and was reelected to the fifty first congress as a democrat receiving 9051 votes against 3204 votes for Z B Hargrove republican Mr Clements was beaten last time by Everett the present congressman Mr Felton ran against Everett as an independent The announcement of the appointment will give general satisfaction throughout the south and especially in Georgia Gen Heard of Wilkes county has forty bales of the cotton crop of 18 unsold He could have sold this in the fall of that year for Scents He preferred keeping it to look at The General has his last years crop on hand also In about fifteen years cotton will go up to 7 Cent é again
At a meeting of the Confederate Veterans Association it was decided to call a gathering of brothers in arms on Military Day April 1 1892 in Albany Georgia. The event will honor early comrades with notable attendees including Governor of Georgia General Lee and General Longstreet. Leaders urge care for aging veterans and invite all to attend.
