An old farm tale contrasts Frank Houston choosing family over promising mine riches. He resists peers and a flawed lure, choosing duty to his mother and home, becoming a steady farmer admired for obedience and moral choice.
The passage narrates a rambling incident where a mule, pensive and conscience troubled, resists sympathy from a cat and dog. A farmer boy John attempts to harvest or control the beast, leading to a fatal funeral. The verse mocks the mule for never doing a decent thing as others meet strange fates.
W J Hitchcock of Buffalo and Alfred W Stevens of Cadwell endorse Ely's Cream Balm as a complete cure for catarrh after long suffering. They report terrible headaches diminished and offer the product widely, noting a price of fifty cents.
The Mathis Bros advertise a wide stock of heavy and light family groceries confectioneries fruit and country produce at current prices. Their stock is described as fresh reliable and aimed at pleasing customers. They invite shoppers to call opposite the post office on South Broad Street.
Decatur County will sell at the courthouse in Bainbridge on the first Tuesday in August. It lists a one fifth undivided interest in lot No twenty two in the 15th district as the property of A N Smallwood to satisfy a 1844 Justice Court judgment in favor of L H Peacock. This July 3 1896.
Decatur County sheriff sale notices a parcel identified as Lot 273 in the 11th district, described as land numbered 273, levied on as property of Jno P Insow and Drew Roberts to satisfy a city court fine in favor of Jno E Donalson, dated 1896, by L F Patterson, sheriff.
