A late 19th century item marks Bainbridge prosperity with new business openings on Broad Street and plans for water extensions. Local notices celebrate church repairs, a minister’s farewell, and a minstrel show while merchants advertise Christmas goods and oysters for holiday shoppers.
The column reports delayed fall sowing and early cotton marketing affecting plowing. It notes Mr. James M. Donalson of Decatur Texas visiting Bainbridge, the Court House interior work, and local business ads urging cash trade and warning against bankrupt stock sellers. Also mentions marriages, a New York trained Miss Mayan teaching in Bainbridge, a Parker tonic appeal, a visiting American geologist, and cotton seed sale restrictions in Decatur county with home fertilizer emphasis.
The Stonewall Fire Company held its nineteenth anniversary at City Hall with the Mayor and Aldermen present. Dr. T R Wardell was elected foreman again, and George W Bruce first assistant Frank Wimberley second assistant, Bob McTyre secretary, and Jesse Subbers treasurer. Delegates to the Fire Department were W Green Harrell R A McTyre and Ben Nussbaum. After a banquet and speeches the event closed with music and toasts.
The city’s young men plan a Grand Supper and Ball at the Oakland Hotel on Tuesday the 29th instant. It promises a magnificent supper, fine music, and a grand ball with ample entertainment for non-dancers. ticket prices will be reasonable.
A reward of one hundred dollars is offered for conviction of the party or parties who set fire to the old house near Wright's Warehouse on the night of the 15th or earlier about two months ago. The informant’s name remains confidential unless consent is given. The Crest City Corporation also offers a similar reward for the apprehension and conviction of the party or parties who set fire to any of the burned buildings. End of Council.
