Melon Growers Convene To Discuss Future Of Gem Industry
A large gathering from Albany Cairo and other Georgia towns met in the Superior Court room to form a permanent organization for melon production transportation and marketing. They pressed for relief from freight rates lacking ventilation and car capacity and proposed a seven member transportation committee with authority to negotiate with railroads. Col Nelson Tift was named chair of the executive committee and W R Talley elected vice president.
