A Filipino band attacks Laguimanoc taking control of the town amid unrest. Local authorities report quiet streets as troops mobilize to restore order and protect residents. Residents describe chaos and fear as fighting continues in the area.
Manila dispatch reports Rios led an attack on Lagumanoc on September 3. He and 30 riflemen plus 160 bolo bearers killed two women and a girl, wounded others. A detachment of native constabulary arrived, routed the band, killed several followers, and rounded up 700 men for screening. One lieutenant claims Rios is a descendant of God. Four detachments pursue the fugitives.
The Record prints an interview with President Roosevelt amid Pennsylvania coal protests. Roosevelt notes federal action cannot replace state Republican leadership and urges an amicable settlement guided by conservative Republican principles to balance wage disputes and mining concerns.
West Virginia miners from the Flat Top and Elkhorn fields return to work as about 1000 men report for duty despite a prior strike. Norfolk and Western equipment crews and trains are prepared for immediate regular service, with settlement talks reportedly near at Keystone on the New and Guyandotte rivers.
Duluth September 6 members of the Licensed Tugmen Protective association are split on returning to work. Waterloo dispatch reports that Horace Boies former governor will be nominated to run against Speaker Henderson at the Third district convention in Dubuque next Thursday. Louis Boies declined due to professional duties prompting a shift to Boies. Boies previously demonstrated leadership at the state convention opposing the Kansas City platform reaffirmation.
In Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania on September 6 President Mitchell reports no change in the situation and district officers say strikers remain firm. Company offices claim applications for work are rising daily and that weekly output from active washeries and mines will be the highest since the strike began.
In Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania on September 6 a mob wrecked the home of Lawrence Tarwoski a non union mine worker at Hudson six miles north of the city. The house had every window broken and Tarwoski was not home his wife fled in terror from the place.
The Missouri River north of St Joseph Missouri has formed a growing sand bar diverting the main channel toward the Kansas side. Government steamers and barges have been mobilized to combat the erratic currents and protect fertile bottom lands. If the diversion continues a new river channel could form leaving St Joseph with a costly railroad bridge at risk.
In Cedar Rapids Iowa on September 6 George Cerny seven years old drowned in a mill race. William Sutton thirty five attempted rescue and also died.
A Tangier dispatch reports Berbers attacked Mekins, releasing Mohammed brother of Sultan Mouli Ab-El-Aziz and claimant to the throne. Officials deny rebel success, but sources confirm a critical situation prompting international action and new envoys to Madrid. Mekins hosts a sultanate summer palace.
Democratic state convention at Pocatello endorsed the Kansas City platform and Bryan condemned McKinley’s assassination. A Naples patch reports a gas leak caused a blast in the sacristy of Santa Lucia Church. The explosion collapsed part of the roof, killing the lamplighter and injuring several and possibly more. Debris caused additional fatalities.

Alvin C. Drake, pioneer charcoal manufacturer of Colorado and a wealthy state figure, died during the day after his wife and daughter traveled 820 miles in a special Santa Fe train to be by his bedside. He was born in 1849 at Allentown, Massachusetts.
